The ranking evaluates universities based on their potential to help international students secure employment in the States and eventually obtain a green card.

The ranking's objective is to provide international students and their families with a clear, data-driven look at the financial and career outcomes associated with various universities in the U.S. The ranking focuses on four key criteria:

• Average salary of graduates

• Salary-to-Tuition ratio, indicating the potential return on educational investment

• The ratio of international students to PERM applicants shows the likelihood of securing work authorization. PERM is a U.S. Department of Labor process that allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for permanent residency.

• The total number of PERM Applications helps gauge a university's success in positioning international students for permanent residency.

California is the largest state economy in the U.S. and one of the highest GDPs globally. It is a prime destination for international students pursuing both top-tier education and pathways to permanent residency. California's diverse economy and robust job market make it a great place for STEM and tech careers; these industries often have high sponsorship rates for work visas and green cards.

The ranking highlights several top California universities that provide international students with strong career prospects and a high return on investment (ROI). San Jose State University (#1) ranks first due to its high number of PERM (green card) sponsorships and employer support. California State University, Sacramento (#6) combines affordability with significant green card sponsorship rates, while the University of California, Berkeley (#13) leverages its research reputation and close ties to Silicon Valley, a global tech hub, to create ample job opportunities for international graduates.

Seven Ivy League schools made it into the top 25, demonstrating that their prestige and extensive alumni networks contribute significantly to employment and immigration outcomes:
